    Happy New Year everyone! As we leave 2013 behind us we thought we’d look back on what was an incredible, busy year for Disco Wed and our super wedding DJs. Here are some of the reasons why we’ve been neglecting our blog over the past few months!   2. Our wedding DJs soundtrack a Disco Shed romance at Wick Farm, Bath

    2013 ended on a high for Disco Wed’s super wedding DJ Jason, as he provided the entertainment at the marriage of Ben and Emily on December 22nd at Wick Farm, near Bath. A true shedonist romance, as the pair had met by chance at a Disco Shed club night in Southampton some years back after Ben spotted the listing in a magazine and remembered dancing til dawn in front of the Shed at the Big Chill in 2008. They were blown away that they could bring the Shed to their wedding and booked the Indoor Shed option immediately. Jason picks up the story.   3. A DIY wedding disco on the first sunny day of the year, at Dove Barn in Suffolk

    Dani booked me to be her wedding DJ at Dove Barn in Suffolk when I met her at the venue’s wedding show. She was particularly excited when I told her about the Disco Shed, as it turned out her friend had bought one of our t-shirts at Latitude Festival! So, it was no surprise when she decided up to choose our Indoor Disco Shed option. Dove Barn is a delightful venue – they bill it as ‘well hidden, worth finding’, and I’d agree with both points! It’s certainly off the beaten track and has an appropriately rustic feel. It is actually made up of two barns right next to each other, and is essentially a blank canvas for couples to stamp their mark on. Around the back of the barns is a lovely lawn too, making it one venue which would be able to accommodate the full Disco Shed...

  4. A wedding DJ with in the Indoor Disco Shed at the Barbican Centre in London

    I first met up with Francis and Claire a couple of months before their wedding. The Barbican was the obvious meeting place as that was going to be the stunning backdrop to their big day. I never knew such a place existed, but I found myself taking a stroll with them through the huge conservatory hidden away on the 3rd floor, talking through their plans and musical wishes surrounded by tropical plants, palm trees, exotic birds and a pool which contained the largest coy carp I had ever seen. A cross between Kew Gardens and Jurassic Park, all neatly tucked away within the brutalist concrete architecture that is the Barbican! The couple had opted for the Indoor Shed and it looked fantastic in the ajoining Garden Room where the tables had been laid out in anticipation of the guests arriving.   5. Pangdean Barn, East Sussex disco delicious wedding DJs and indoor shed

    Ronan and Clara booked the indoor Disco Shed for their wedding at Pangdean Barn, near Brighton, East Sussex. We didn’t manage to meet before the big day but it turned out they had partied with the Disco Shed at many a festival, so were pleased when they discovered we did weddings and already had a good idea what to expect of us! Pangdean Barn is a lovely venue with a proper rustic feel – lots of exposed wood, and a particularly impressive beamed ceiling, perfect surroundings for our indoor shed set up! The venue had a stage at one end of the room, on which the shed set up would look great. I wanted to be ready well before the guests arrived, and with a band arriving at the same time, we had to work quickly around each other. The band were to be playing during a barn dance...

  6. Our wedding DJs take the indoor Disco Shed to Parklands, Essex

    Parklands, or Quendon Hall, is very close to Saffron Walden, and so virtually my ‘local’ wedding venue, but until now I have never had the opportunity to DJ there. I’d visited an open day once though and been struck by what an impressive place it is, on the edge of the beautiful Essex village of Quendon set about a mile down a private road, making it all the more striking when it finally looms into view! Mags had seen one of our adverts in a wedding magazine, and got in touch asking me to meet her and Dan to discuss our wedding DJ services. I headed down to meet them at their house one evening in early summer to chat about their wedding music and go through our different options – though it turned out that Mags already had her heart set on our indoor Disco Shed!   7. Preston Court, Kent, Indoor Disco Shed wedding DJ

    Martina and Adam got in touch almost as soon as I launched our Disco Wed Facebook page, looking for a DJ for their wedding at Preston Court in Kent. Not long after getting in touch, they came down to one of our Disco Shed club nights at The Book Club, in London and subsequently decided to book our Indoor Disco Shed option for their big day. Martina works in TV and even booked me separately to play a DJ in a scene set at a rave in a programme she was working on – My Mad Fat Diary. So by the time, a couple of weeks after filming and not long before the wedding, that we met for drinks again to discuss music and their plans for the day I felt we’d struck up a great friendship, which is always nice!   8. Wedding DJ and our indoor Disco Shed at Hertfordshire’s Priory Barn

    My main memories of the day I spent as a wedding DJ at Priory Barn in Hertfordshire are of beautiful people and beautiful surroundings! The venue was apparently recently voted as the 21st best wedding venue in the UK by Brides magazine, and whilst I can be a bit cynical about things like awards and chart placements (particularly when the list appears to be grouped by regions rather than being a straight run-down!), it’s certainly a lovely looking place both inside and out, with gorgeous gardens, manicured lawns and set in very pretty countryside. These memories are no doubt aided by a particularly good set of photos taken by Andy Rapkins who has kindly allowed me to share them here.
