    I’d been looking forward to being Barry and Michelle’s wedding DJ at Upwaltham Barns for ages, as I’d played for them before at their friends’ wedding about 6 months before and had a brilliant time! The nature of being a wedding DJ is that you don’t expect much repeat business, most people don’t expect to be getting married again any time soon afterwards after all!   2. A DIY wedding disco on the first sunny day of the year, at Dove Barn in Suffolk

    Dani booked me to be her wedding DJ at Dove Barn in Suffolk when I met her at the venue’s wedding show. She was particularly excited when I told her about the Disco Shed, as it turned out her friend had bought one of our t-shirts at Latitude Festival! So, it was no surprise when she decided up to choose our Indoor Disco Shed option. Dove Barn is a delightful venue – they bill it as ‘well hidden, worth finding’, and I’d agree with both points! It’s certainly off the beaten track and has an appropriately rustic feel. It is actually made up of two barns right next to each other, and is essentially a blank canvas for couples to stamp their mark on. Around the back of the barns is a lovely lawn too, making it one venue which would be able to accommodate the full Disco Shed...

  3. Our wedding DJs play Mulberry House in Essex twice in a week!

    The last weekend in March and first in April saw two of our super Disco Wed wedding DJs play at lovely Mulberry House in Chipping Ongar, Essex. First up was Paddy, play for Alex & Alison, who booked our DJ only option after meeting us at one of our very first wedding shows and then coming along to one of our parties at the Book Club. It was a busy day for Disco Wed! Jason was playing at the Barbican Centre, whilst Gaz and I had already installed one of our DJ only set-ups at the Saffron Hotel in Saffron Walden, before heading to Blake Hall, just down the road from Mulberry House, where Gaz was playing so by the time I arrived at Mulberry House I was onto my third set-up of the morning!   4. A wedding DJ with in the Indoor Disco Shed at the Barbican Centre in London

    I first met up with Francis and Claire a couple of months before their wedding. The Barbican was the obvious meeting place as that was going to be the stunning backdrop to their big day. I never knew such a place existed, but I found myself taking a stroll with them through the huge conservatory hidden away on the 3rd floor, talking through their plans and musical wishes surrounded by tropical plants, palm trees, exotic birds and a pool which contained the largest coy carp I had ever seen. A cross between Kew Gardens and Jurassic Park, all neatly tucked away within the brutalist concrete architecture that is the Barbican!   5. Civil Ceremony at Fallowfields Hotel, Oxfordshire with a Disco Wed wedding DJ

    Our first wedding DJ gig of 2013 was actually a civil ceremony, at lovely Fallowfields Hotel and Restaurant in Oxfordshire, where we’re delighted to be preferred supplier. It’s a lovely venue, a boutique hotel set in lovely grounds, with a farm and on some days even has falconry displays which are great! Plus, the food there really is delicious – many of the ingredients are grown in their own garden and I always look forward to eating at Fallowfields! We were recommended to Kelly by the venue and this must be the fifth or sixth time we’ve played there.   6. Our wedding DJs take the indoor Disco Shed to Parklands, Essex

    Parklands, or Quendon Hall, is very close to Saffron Walden, and so virtually my ‘local’ wedding venue, but until now I have never had the opportunity to DJ there. I’d visited an open day once though and been struck by what an impressive place it is, on the edge of the beautiful Essex village of Quendon set about a mile down a private road, making it all the more striking when it finally looms into view! Mags had seen one of our adverts in a wedding magazine, and got in touch asking me to meet her and Dan to discuss our wedding DJ services.   7. Disco Wed wedding DJs at Ingatestone Hall, Essex

    Andy and Emma attended a wedding show at Ingatestone Hall, where Disco Wed was exhibiting our super wedding DJ services! They had already booked a rock & roll band, and told me they were planning to fill the gaps when they weren’t playing with an iPod playlist. Now, with so many terrible wedding DJs around, and the need to manage a budget, I understand why people also choose to retain control of the music by taking the iPod route, but it’s a real bugbear of mine! Not because it means less work for us, as I don’t mind losing work to other DJs or to bands at all. Instead, my experience of iPod parties is that they can really lack atmosphere – slow fade-outs and the gaps between the songs can be a real party pooper, the volumes of songs varies all over the place, low bit-rate mp3s sound...

  8. Our wedding DJs play at Port Lympne Animal Park, Kent

    My girlfriend Libby grew up with an original Wurlitzer juke box in her bedroom, whilst her Dad helps run the Buddy Holly fan club and designs all the artwork for rock & roll revivalist record label Rollercoaster Records. So when Lib met Josie at a very busy wedding fair in Kent and got chatting about a shared love of rock & roll, she was very excited! Sadly, despite DJing at vintage club night The Big Ten Inch as well as with the Disco Shed (look out for Miss Splinters), Lib doesn’t fancy trying out her skills as a wedding DJ.     Nicola and Sean were looking for a wedding DJ when they attended a fair at which I was exhibiting on a snowy day at Gilwell Park in Chingford, where they were also getting married. We had a good chat at the show and when they returned to my stand before heading home I thought there was a good chance they would book us! And happily, that turned out to be the case… We exchanged a few emails after the show and I arranged to meet Sean and Nicky again at their flat in London, ironically after another wedding show at a different venue!   10. Wedding DJ at Layer Marney Tower, Essex

    We met Ian and Caroline at a wedding fair, and they subsequently booked us to be their wedding DJ, opting for our DJ only set-up. This was the first trip to Layer Marney Tower in Essex for Disco Wed and I’d been looking forward to seeing the place in the flesh, as it were. I’d seen brochures for the venue at various tourist information spots – it looks spectacular and it bills itself as one of the country’s most dramatic buildings. It was built in tudor times and visited by both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I (look, I was a history student so I like this stuff, ok?! 😎 ) and more recently by lovely Fiona Bruce and the Antique’s Roadshow team.
